Like bones, or the twisted sinews of some strange plant, the ironwork of this entrance is something to wonder at. I'm generally a fan of the "form follows function" school of thought, which tends towards a cleaner, less ornamental architecture. Yet I'm profoundly glad that the Art Nouveau period happened, and I'm fascinated by the highly stylised, exotic forms it produced. There's a wild, emotional quality to the art of the period, which I sometimes find quite disturbing in its intensity.
