A trembling veil of lightnes about to burst? Is the sun glowing through a thin river mist that will burn away to reveal a beautiful blue sky, or is this a dark, murky, indistinct and sinister place? A place of which Conrad wrote, "The offing was barred by a black bank of clouds, and the tranquil waterway leading to the uttermost ends of the earth flowed sombre under an overcast sky - seemed to lead into the heart of an immense darkness."
